Writing is a lot like singing. Almost everyone can do it but some are better than others and some are not so keen to indulge. Anyone who went to school will have started writing and singing at a young age. I was no different.
I was born by the seaside in New Brighton, which is in Wallasey, Merseyside. My family moved to Liverpool and, after I was married, I lived in Runcorn and Burton-upon-Trent. We had a daughter, Amanda, who is currently studying forensic psychology at the University of Nottingham following her bachelor's degree at Aberystwyth University. I used to visit often. I would love to live in Wales.
Most people I meet tell me they are writing a book, the problem is that they don't have the time. It is not a priority for them as it is to me. I have written many but the first full-length novel was published in 2012. I doubt if those I wrote before then will ever see the light of day. I will keep them anyway.
I love history, the challenge of enquiry and interpretation, finding out what makes people do the things they do, their motivation, their desires. I particularly enjoy the 'Dark Ages' because there is so much that is unknown. Nothing tops a new discovery following an archaeological dig that shines new light on what we thought we knew. It followed that I became a history teacher in 2005 and I taught in secondary schools in Staffordshire and Derbyshire.
Nature, hills, mountains, rivers, castles, animals and swords are other passions. My favourite countries are full of history, legends and mystery - Wales, Italy and Greece. Home always has at least one cat companion, currently I have two, Soxy and Hugo. My other great passion is elaborate doodling.
Being a peace-loving kind of person I am always fascinated by the dark side of human nature. Like everyone else, I do have shards of darkness fracturing my hippy existence from time to time. The unknown, the undiscovered and the unexpected with the fears these bring; psychological suspense with spooky atmospheres; deep, thoughtful and dark. These are the things that drive me. This is what I write about.
