He promised to look after his grandfather's cat and allotment.
It didn't sound sinister.

When his grandfather breaks his back, Jayden is given the task of feeding his beloved cat and keeping an eye on his allotment. Unfortunately, the cat ends up dead in the garden. The least Jayden can do is bury him in his grandfather's favourite place.

But when he digs the hole under the apple tree he finds that it is a grave for someone else. A body is already there. And the allotment chairman has a gun.

Everyone digs. Nobody talks. What other things are growing under the cabbages?

Ali Doyle
5.0 out of 5 stars Great novel with imaginative and unique plot

Thoroughly enjoyed this ‘allotment noir’ as I followed Jayden, the hapless uni student, get more than he bargained for when he becomes entangled with the ‘boring’ allotment tending pensioners and the secrets they are determined to keep. It’s a fast paced easy read with an imaginative and unique plot, reminiscent of Harlan Coben’s YA novels. I would definitely recommend this novel - who knew horticulture was so thrilling?!
