23/6/2022 The Guilty Couple by C.L. Taylor
A woman is released from prison after serving a five year sentence for plotting to murder her husband. However, she was framed by her husband and a police officer, with whom he was having an affair, so her aim is to clear her name, re-establish a relationship with her daughter and destroy her husband.
With the help of someone she met in prison, she sets about trying to find evidence of the set-up. Only the more she digs the more she finds out that nothing is at it seems. Everyone has something to hide and has a dubious past and it's difficult to trust anyone. This is a fast paced story told from three perspectives. The chapters are snappy and propel the book along at a fair old speed. The plot unveils many unexpected events, some a tad far-fetched, and the characters have enough suspicious overtones to make them all appear unreliable and manipulative. The police officer, for example, seems to be stalking more than policing. The kind of book one reads to see what happens next and how the tale will be resolved and it is modern and easy to read. Unfortunately though, this thriller is a little disappointing.
